Injured Button to miss last test of 2006

A Honda spokeswoman said on Tuesday that Jenson Button, recovering from cracked ribs, will sit out the third and last test of the year this week.

“To ensure the healing process continues unabated we have taken the decision that Jenson will not drive at this week’s test in Jerez,” Tracy Novak, the Brackley based team’s communications manager, said in an email.

The Jerez test kicks off on Wednesday.

Race driver Button, 27, sustained the injury whilst driving a go-kart in training for the 2007 season. His absence from the Spanish test tracks, however, means that his first experience of Bridgestone’s control tyre will be in the new year.

The spokeswoman continued: “We have been monitoring Jenson’s rib injury over the last few weeks and are delighted to say that it is healing very well.

“He will attend the test to take part in the engineering meetings and to continue to stay fully up to date with our winter development programme.”
