On a cold and sometimes wet Jerez track, the Ferrari pairing of Felipe Massa and Luca Badoer set the pace, followed by McLaren rookie Lewis Hamilton. McLaren, Renault, Williams, Toyota and Super Aguri all focused on tyres work – getting to grips with the new Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

In addition, Hamilton focused on rear suspension work, while De La Rosa worked on the front and rear wings. Renault also completed maximum mileage to build reliability on their new gearbox, while Kohei Hirate got acquainted with the car in his first Formula One test for Toyota.
