Quadruple former world champion Alain Prost thinks McLaren might have its nose in front ahead of the battle for the 2007 title.
The 51-year-old Frenchman drove for all three top teams during his illustrious career but has tipped the Woking based squad to triumph this year over likely rivals Ferrari and Renault.
“Making predictions before the season has even started is never easy,” Prost told reporters at a press conference in Lisbon, “but I can imagine the championship being fought between Ferrari and McLaren.”
He observed that McLaren and Fernando Alonso seem “very strong” on the winter test tracks and wondered whether Finn Kimi Raikkonen would have “some difficulty” integrating himself at Ferrari.
“The beginning of the season could be crucial for him. If he finds himself behind (Felipe) Massa then he could find himself in a difficult situation,” said Prost.
Alain Prost also observed that Renault appear to be “a step” behind the aforementioned pair.
