A ‘Friday’ seat for the team this year has been ruled out, but Christian Klien is still hot on the trail of a 2007 racing role with Spyker.

The Red Bull refugee will sit out the remaining three grands prix of this season, but on Wednesday he met with Spyker-MF1 principal Colin Kolles at Silverstone and was even shown the progress that is being made with the 2007 race car at the wind tunnel in Brackley.

He may even have discussed the team’s future plans at Monza with 2007 technical chief Mike Gascoyne, amid rumours that he has landed the backing of an Austrian sponsor that is already associated with Spyker-MF1.

Klien, 23, was also reportedly interested in a test seat for a works team, but uncertainty about the implications of the 30,000km test limits next year has led him to push the Spyker option.
