“In 2006 Kovalainen will be our test driver and will follow the same development program as Fernando Alonso.” These are the words from Renault Team Boss, Flavio Briatore, as he looks towards the future for not only his team but also the future of Formula One. Briatore having full praise for the newest Renault test driver, also quashed rumours that Kovalainen was bound for a race seat at BMW next season.
He added, “He is the future of Formula 1. In 2007 he will definitely race either with Renault or another F1 team.”
But for now, Kavalainen will be testing at Renault, but has a good solid base around him. Testing under and World Champion, at a World Championship team; not a bad start to his Formula One career, don’t you think?
