Maranello make Schumacher honorary citizen

Maranello, the town in northern Italy that is home to the carmaker and formula one team Ferrari, has made retiring seven time world champion Michael Schumacher an honorary citizen.

Although born in the German city of Kerpen, and today a resident of Switzerland, Maranello mayor Lucia Bursi oversaw the decision to honour the 37-year-old with citizenry in a council meeting on Tuesday evening.

“With his fantastic sporting career, Schumacher was part of a very important section of Maranello’s history,” the mayor said.

“With this gesture we would like to say ‘thankyou’ to him.”
