Felipe Massa has joined the running to replace Christian Klien at Red Bull for the 2007 season.
The energy drink owned team’s ‘motor sport consultant’ Helmut Marko said in Magny Cours that the young Brazilian is ‘surely a candidate’ — if he is shown the exit at Ferrari.
”He is not as fast in the races as Michael Schumacher,” Marko was quoted as saying by ‘ORF’, ”but for what he shows for his age and for his experience, he is surely a candidate.”
Klien, 23, must know by now that his time at Red Bull is up, even if the team’s actual driver decision is not due for another week or two.
Marko explained: ”We expected him to beat David Coulthard, but he has not done that so far.”
Heikki Kovalainen, Ralf Schumacher and Mark Webber are also candidates to replace him, with Marko continuing that any successor ‘would have to be clearly better’ than the man he replaces.
