Or so, at least, the readers of this website believe. We asked you who you think will win the first race of the season and a full 36% declared Massa their favourite. Raikkonen came a close second with 30%, while just under 18% believed that Alonso would be the first winner of 2007.
No other driver really featured. The one other interesting aspect of the poll results is that more people believe that Rubens Barrichello would win the race than Jenson Button – with 4.3% and 3.3% respectively.
The other hot topic for race 1 is whether the Super Aguri and Scuderia Toro Rosso cars will be declared illegal by the FIA. Super Aguri’s car is as near as makes no difference identical to last year’s Honda, while the STR is basically the same car as this year’s Red Bull entrant.
The practice of purchasing another team’s car will only become legal next year and more than one team have indicated that they will lodge protests against these cars on race day. The fact that Super Aguri had such a strong showing in second Friday practice makes it an even more prominent topic.
