McLaren poached a top aerodynamicist from Renault in order to help hone a winning car for new arrival Fernando Alonso, according to RTL in Germany.

The television broadcaster reports that Nicolas Hennel de Beaupreau, a respected aerodynamic project engineer during Alonso’s four year Renault tenure, is accompanying the Spaniard to Woking as the silver team prepares to fine-tune the ‘MP4-22’ car for his unique driving style.

A report explains that contemporary McLarens, piloted by men including Kimi Raikkonen, Juan Pablo Montoya and David Coulthard, have been ‘neutral’ cars, whereas Alonso’s style calls for a stiffer setup and a preference to oversteer.

Previously, Hennel de Beaupreau worked under Ross Brawn at Ferrari.
