McLaren testing report

Thu, 29 September 2005, 07:32

Today marked the second and final day of the Team McLaren Mercedes testing programme in Jerez, Spain.

Alex and Pedro continued work at the circuit today, behind the wheel of two MP4-20s. Pedro was progressing with the Michelin tyre programme for the Chinese Grand Prix he began yesterday, completing short runs in the morning. This afternoon he took over damper work from Alex and was focusing on aerodynamic developments.

Alex’s programme today incorporated Michelin tyre work, and rear suspension
development. Both drivers completed their planned programmes without any problems.

Pedro was the fastest man on the circuit with a best time of 1m15.737s, while Alex was second fastest with a best time of 1m16.417s.

Alex Wurz
“These two days have gone well and we have made some positive steps
forward, completing a distance of 840km with no problems. I can’t believe
this is the final test before the end of the season, the year seems to have
gone by so quickly.”

Pedro de la Rosa
“With the Chinese Grand Prix just a few weeks away, this test has been
important in making sure we make the correct Michelin tyre choice for the
race. I will be the team’s Friday driver out in Shanghai, and am looking
forward to seeing how the work we have done here at Jerez will help us out
on the racetrack.”
