McLaren V8 not in for redesign

As the McLaren MP4-20B cars in their interim orange livery took to the track powered by restricted V10’s yesterday the rumour mill immediately kicked into action. Following some reports that their V8 was lacking power and eaqrly testing indications that it was suffering reliability problems, speculation was rife that the engine was in for a complete redesign.

McLaren has dismissed these rumours, stating that current production of the V8’s was focused on producing the engines for the MP4-21 – due to go into testing later this month. The new car has different engine mountings.

De la Rosa topped the timesheets setting a time of of 1:16.504s, while Paffet could only manage 13th at 1:20.137.
