Melbourne to stage diffuser showdown – Mosley

Mar.21 (GMM) Max Mosley on Saturday said he expects the row about rear diffusers will come to a head when the F1 circus meets for the 2009 season opener next week

Three teams – Brawn, Toyota and Williams – have set tongues wagging this winter, but so far the governing FIA has not declared their “very clever” but controversial aerodynamic solutions illegal

“You can make a very good case for saying that it’s legal and a very good case for saying that it’s illegal,” the FIA president told the Daily Telegraph newspaper

“It’s going to be difficult,” Mosley added

He revealed that “detailed objections” have now been submitted to the Paris body, but ruled out sending the case to the FIA Court of Appeal for now

“Actually I have given thought to that this week. But there isn’t time. It wouldn’t be fair. I think the thing will probably come to some sort of a head in Australia,” said Mosley

He predicts that the only solution is a formal protest lodged with the stewards, who would then have to rule on the diffusers’ legality

“That will almost certainly be appealed by whichever side is disadvantaged,” Mosley explained. “And then that will go to our Court of Appeal and be hammered out.”nnThe Telegraph said the saga, with some FOTA members theoretically pressing court claims against other FOTA members, will be a “stern test” of the alliance’s unity
