Frank Montagny’s manager has thanked both Daniele Audetto and Renault for helping the Frenchman to ‘climb the steps’ to F1.

His call-up was in true eleventh-hour style, but the 28-year-old former Renault tester and GP rookie will replace the axed Yuji Ide at the Nurburgring from Friday.

Montagny’s long-time associate Gilles Bellec said F1 managerial veteran Daniele Audetto put in ‘positive comments’ with his Super Aguri bosses when the racing vacancy arose.

And although Franck has been critical of his former team in the past, Bellec added: ”And to Renault, for helping Franck get his foot in the door.”

He explained that Montagny has accrued an ‘enormous technical’ understanding of the sport.

”For this,’ said his manager, ”we can only thank Renault.”
