Monteiro targets F1 return in 2008

Tiago Monteiro has confirmed suspicions that he will not be on the grid this year, as Toro Rosso prepare on Tuesday morning to finalise the remaining two vacant seats.

The former Jordan and Midland pilot, who had hoped to retain his spot at Spyker until Adrian Sutil got the nod, said he “did not accept any of the proposals from formula one teams for 2007”, according to a press released provided by his management.

“(The proposals) did not meet the conditions he deserved,” the 30-year-old Portuguese, linked recently with either Vitantonio Liuzzi or Scott Speed’s STR spots, added.

Monteiro does, however, expect to race elsewhere in 2007.

He said he has received offers to race in “competitive championships” and targets a return to F1 next year.

“I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the proposals I have received for 2007,” Monteiro, who has already tested for the Seat world touring car team, continued.
