More teams sign up for Bahrain test

At least seven of the eleven formula one teams – and probably more – will attend February’s winter test at Bahrain grand prix venue Sakhir, we have learned.

A year ago, only three outfits – Honda, Ferrari and Toro Rosso – similarly travelled to the Gulf location, amid suggestions that it was an overly expensive way to prepare for the 2006 season.

This time around, however, the two back to back tests – scheduled for 22-24 February and 27 Feburary-1 March 2007 – will definitely be attended by Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Toyota, McLaren, Renault, Ferrari and Super Aguri.

Super Aguri will apparently test only for three of the available six days.

It is understood that Bridgestone has agreed to supply the test following some teams’ suggestions that it may be their only pre-season opportunity to sample the 2007 tyres on a genuinely hot track.

BMW and Honda are also expected to test in Bahrain, while there has been no indication from Williams or Spyker.
