Will it be bright young talent or wisdom and experience? The question of who will partner world-champion Fernando Alonso at McLaren next year will remain one of the biggest silly-season speculation points until almost end of year, when the McLaren team is expected to announce its driver line-up for 2007.
De La Rosa impressed in the ’05 season when Montoya was out with his “tennis-injury”, making daring overtaking moves and showing a generally attacking and exciting driving style. With him once-again standing in for a departed Montoya in ’06 though, he failed to make the same impression.
Ron Dennis has confirmed that De La Rosa will drive for the team next season but said nothing about it being a race drive. A series of shoot-outs is expected to decide the race-drive and F1 fans world-wide will be watching these testing sessions closely.
The DailyF1News reader base seem to be divided almost equally in their opinion, with a current 51.2% vs 48.8% split between Hamilton the promising rookie and De La Rosa the seasoned veteran. The poll closes tomorrow so, if you have not yet aired your views, get voting!
