Newey hospitalised in race shunt

Red Bull technical guru Adrian Newey spent a night in hospital last weekend after he was knocked unconscious in an amateur sports car race.

The keen racer, 47, was lapping a backmarker in Goodwood, England, when his Jaguar E-Type slid onto the grass and into a wall.

Newey was taken to a local hospital and kept under observation, following a similarly high-speed shunt in a Ford GT40 at Le Mans in July, when he injured his finger.

Newey told Eurosport: ”I must have hit my head on the rollbar.

”I have no recollection of the event. I felt a bit dazed in the ambulance and now I feel as though I have severe jet lag.”
