‘No reason’ for Schumacher to quit – Rubens

Michael Schumacher’s former teammate Rubens Barrichello says he is not sure why the 37-year-old German is retiring from formula one.

“He has done some stupid things,” the Brazilian, who drove for Ferrari between 2000 and 2005 before switching to Honda, told Welt Online, “but he has also been very important for the sport.

“He is still very competitive, so I cannot see the reason why he must stop.”

Barrichello, 34, also paid tribute to the way in which Schumacher rallied the Ferrari troops around his cause.

“I had the same equipment and the same resources,” Rubens admitted, “but not always did the guys have the same shine in their eyes that they got when they work with him.”
