World champion and 2006 championship leader Fernando Alonso says he is not having second thoughts about leaving Renault for McLaren at the end of the current year.
At a press conference in Madrid prior to his home grand prix this weekend, the Spaniard said: ”I am convinced that in 2007 I will have the best car in F1.”
At Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona this weekend, 24-year-old Alonso will perform in front of Spain’s King Juan Carlos and 130,000 other adoring countrymen, including 2,000 of his own fan club.
But he couldn’t help having a little moan about what is increasingly called ‘Alonsomania’.
”When I arrive in another country,” he said, ”I am treated with respect. Here, though, I am chased around in restaurants and can’t move about freely.”gmmf1dailyf1news.com
