The mechanic responsible for dropping a wheel nut during Fernando Alonso’s crucial pit stop in Shanghai a week ago does not feature on the Renault crew at Suzuka, it emerged in Japan.
But despite reports suggesting that the ‘rotation’ is standard procedure, it is unusual to remove an integral member of the team – such as a wheel-nut mechanic – at short notice.
