Norbert Haug has denied gossip in the Shanghai paddock that McLaren-Mercedes is planning to help future team driver Fernando Alonso to win the 2006 title for Renault.

If Alonso beats Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher to the drivers’ crown, he will take the number 1 to McLaren next year, but competition director Haug told ‘Premiere’: ”We will race for ourself.

”This is a normal grand prix for us.”

After Felipe Massa’s problems on Friday, Ross Brawn said on Saturday that Ferrari was not overly worried about the engine mounted in the car of 2006 championship challenger Michael Schumacher.

”We do not have any specific concerns,” he told us in Shanghai.
