Poor condition of Jerez track surface

A big hole in Jerez track, which appeared during last day of pre-season tests confirmed suspicions that surface on Spanish track is not enough good for Formula 1 tyre tests.

Even before today`s “hole in track” story drivers and Pirelli officials were complaining that surface in Jerez is in worse condition than last year. According to Pirelli officials, there are many bitumen lacks in the track which causes higher level of tyre`s degradation.

On top of that, temperatures in Jerez were very low this year so it was not easy for the teams to find operative window for tyres.

Friday`s test had to be extended for half of an hour because of big asphalt hole on one of the turns. Red flag was in for a long time and stewards had to repair the hole.

There are some voices that Formula 1 should change venue of winters-test on warmer track with better surface.
