The Renault F1 Team concluded testing for the week in Jerez today, with Heikki Kovalainen and Franck Montagny continuing to rack up the miles testing solutions in preparation for 2006. In spite of numerous red flags, both drivers completed over 100 laps. Heikki finished the day third fastest, with Franck fourth.
Franck’s day focused solely around extensive brake testing and development. His running was composed of long runs on old tyres, as he compared different solutions.
On the other side of the garage, Heikki focused on tyre testing with technical partner Michelin, testing solutions for 2006 on both short and long runs.
In total, the two cars completed 1941 km during their two days at Jerez. The team will return to action at the same circuit, from 14 – 17 December, with the final day used as a wet tyre test.
Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer
“We had another very productive day in Jerez. Both drivers were able to start running quickly, and progressed well with their programmes. Our technical solution for these test sessions, using a known R25 package to establish a good baseline for tyre and vehicle development, is so far proving extremely useful as we are completing very high mileages every day, and making solid progress for 2006. We hope to continue in the same manner next week.”
