R. Schumacher denies return of old back injury

Ralf Schumacher has denied that his back problem at the Bahrain test last week is connected with his injury sustained against the Indianapolis wall in 2004.

The German had to sit out a day’s running at the final pre-season test of 2007 after bouncing over a high kerb.

Asked whether his old injury had been aggravated by the incident, Schumacher told his website: “Those things have nothing to do with each other.

“Everyone would have reacted the same way because (the Bahrain incident) was fairly severe — nearly 20g, and because of the seating position the impact went straight to my back.

“I didn’t want to risk anything so close to the start of the season so I didn’t get straight back into the car.”
