Ralf Schumacher sat out most of Tuesday’s running at the final test of the pre-season after sustaining a back injury.
On his thirty seventh lap, the German driver’s Toyota bounced over a kerb during a spin, aggravating a muscle.
“After a massage, the decision was taken to allow him to rest in order to ensure he is fully fit for tomorrow,” a statement read.
French test driver Franck Montagny, who was already in Bahrain, stepped in at short notice to replace 31-year-old Schumacher, but is expected to hand the TF107 back to Ralf on Wednesday.
