R. Schumacher rejects retirement talk

Ralf Schumacher has rejected suggestions that he might not seek a renewal of his expiring Toyota contract at the end of the 2007 season.

The 31-year-old German’s deal ends this year but he insists that he is not planning to follow elder brother Michael Schumacher into retirement any time soon.

He also hinted that he was likely to pursue a new contract at Cologne based Toyota rather than look elsewhere in pitlane, but insisted that it is “too early” to think about the issue.

“At the moment we are thinking much more about the car.

“I love my job,” Schumacher told Sport Bild, “and I very much enjoy being a part of this team. I feel very good about what I am doing.

“Ask me again in six years,” he smiled, probably referring to seven time world champion Michael Schumacher, who hung up his helmet at the age of 37.

Schumacher’s last win in F1 came at the wheel of a BMW-Williams in 2003, and his most recent achievement for Toyota was a podium in Melbourne last year.
