Ralf delays news about 2008 until season’s end

Ralf Schumacher says his plans for the 2008 season are not going to be revealed before the last race of 2007 in Brazil.

Asked once again about his future at the Fuji Speedway, the 32-year-old expressed frustration with the press’ persistent interest in whether he will still be on the grid next year.

Schumacher told the German broadcaster Premiere at Fuji Speedway on Friday that the news will not be forthcoming until the circus rolls into Sao Paulo late next month “at the earliest”.

“I don’t know how often I have been asked the same question,” Ralf added. “I will answer it at the end of the season.”

He has had a tough season with Toyota in 2007, and ahead of the team’s home race in Japan was again consistently slower than his teammate Jarno Trulli.

“I just want to finish off the season,” he told Reuters earlier this week.

“It’s true I have been talking to other teams. I won’t be more specific than that — right now I want to get the last few races over with.”

On an estimated $19m per year salary, he joined Toyota as a six-time winner from Williams in 2005 but the Cologne based team is still yet to record its debut victory.

“To be honest, things just haven’t happened,” Schumacher admitted. “We expected points and podiums but we didn’t make it.”
