Ralf – I’m leaving Toyota

Ralf Schumacher has announced that he will not race for Toyota in 2008.

The German veteran, who joined the Japanese giant in 2005 but has particularly struggled this year, said he is seeking a “new challenge” for the future.

“I have been waiting years for a competitive car,” he said from Shanghai, where on Sunday he will drive his penultimate grand prix for the Cologne based team.

Despite vowing to move on, however, 32-year-old Schumacher insists that he will still push hard at the last two races of 2007, in China and Brazil.

“I will give my very best to at least finish this difficult season on a high, with and for Toyota.”

He refused to give any hints about the future, but revealed that he plans to have “several conversations” in the coming weeks before making an announcement when the season is over.

“For me, the financial aspect is far less important than the chance of being involved in the development of a car and being successful afterwards,” Ralf added.
