Renault’s customer supply of engines to the Red Bull team is not yet fully up to speed.
That is the admission of Fabrice Lom, Renault’s principal race engineer in charge of the new arrangement for 2007 with Red Bull.
He revealed that, although Mark Webber and David Coulthard did not suffer obvious problems in Melbourne last month, the “overall reliability” of the package still needs to be refined.
“They weren’t able to run the whole race at peak performance,” Lom said.
“We had some minor issues that restricted our pace, which was disappointing.
“But the relationship is still very new, and our working methods are not yet instinctive.”
Lom says that he hopes Renault and Red Bull have solved the issues that were identified in Australia during last week’s four days of testing at the Sepang circuit.
