Red Bull made early decision to bin 2006

Mere Hours after the track debut of Red Bull’s 2006 car, the Austrian team decided to turn its attention to next year.

That is the revelation of team owner and energy drink mogul Dietrich Mateschitz, after the Milton Keynes based squad finished seventh in this year’s constructors’ world title.

“It was clear even at the rollout in January that the car had errors that would not be recoverable during the season,” the billionaire told Austrian newspaper Die Presse.

Instead of developing the flawed RB2, then, team chiefs instructed the crew to put all efforts behind lauded designer Adrian Newey’s first Red Bull single seater.

Mateschitz insists that expectations for 2007 are therefore ‘very high’.

“We gave absolute priority this year to the development of the next car,” the billionaire Austrian said, “and to putting together the best Formula One team we can.”
