Renault is not quite on Ferrari’s winter test pace, Roman driver Giancarlo Fisichella admits.
“They are very competitive, they did a good job and they have worked a lot with Bridgestone. I think they have a bit of an advantage,” Renault’s lead driver, 34, said after the Barcelona test.
The final tests of the 2007 pre-season will kick off in Bahrain late next week, and Fisichella is confident that Renault is still competitive despite the loss of Fernando Alonso.
Some observers think McLaren and BMW may also have overtaken the Enstone based camp, which – with Alonso at the wheel – won the drivers’ and constructors’ titles in 2005 and last year.
“We are there,” the website bridgestonemotorsport.com quoted Fisichella as insisting, “but we are still a bit behind Ferrari.”
