Renault deny ‘B’ car reports

A spokesman for Renault has dismissed reports that the French squad is currently working on a ‘B’ version of its 2007 contender, the R27.

It was claimed on Monday that team boss Flavio Briatore, dismayed with the performance of the car in Melbourne, ordered engineers to this week start work on a substantial update, including a Ferrari-style longer wheelbase for the chassis.

The spokesman, however, although confirming that updates are scheduled for the current car, insisted that media reporting of the topic was too extreme.

“There is no plan for a B version of the R27,” the Dutch publication Formule 1 Race Report quoted the spokesman as saying, “but we are working hard on several fronts on new components that will appear on the car soon.”
