Renault might use ‘Friday’ runners in ’07

Renault might join BMW and Super Aguri in running a test driver in some ‘Friday’ practice sessions in 2007.

The French squad’s Pat Symonds, however, insisted that the newly-multicoloured team intend to start the grand prix season without Ricardo Zonta or Nelson Piquet wearing their driving gear.

Third cars have been scrapped for 2007, meaning that if teams want to use a third driver on Friday, one of the race lineup must sit out part or all of the two ninety minute tests.

Symonds said on Wednesday: “There may be opportunities to run a third driver at some circuits, but we do not yet know whether we will choose to do so.

“We will be constantly appraising (our strategy) as the season develops.”
