Luxury watchmaker Rolex became sponsor of Australian Grand Prix title. Happy is even Bernie Ecclestone.

In few last seasons there were voices that Formula 1 is too expensive for Melbourne and that Australia shouldn`t participate in Formula 1 circus. Finding a sponsor was very important for organizers and now they announced new sponsor’s deal with luxury watchmaker Rolex which will be a new title sponsor.

“We are delighted to be the Title Sponsor of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and it is a superb way for Rolex to start a long partnership with Formula One. As the Official Timekeeper, a partnership we announced before Christmas, we will of course support Formula One at every race but we felt a Title Sponsorship of the first race was a very strong sign of our passion and commitment” – said Gian Riccardo Marini, Rolex CEO.

“We are honoured to have a brand like Rolex as our Title Sponsor, this is hugely exciting for all of us here and we cannot wait to welcome them to Melbourne for the first race. Formula One receives a big welcome from Melbourne and Australia and we are very confident Rolex will enjoy their race in Formula One both as Official Timekeeper and as our Title Sponsor” – added Ronald J Walker, Australian GP Corp. chairman.

Even Formula One CEO, Bernie Ecclestone was happy of new Australian GP sponsor deal: “This announcement is super news for Rolex, for Melbourne and for Formula One. Given Rolex was only recently announced as our Official Timekeeper, we are delighted they have chosen to become Title Sponsor of the first race and to begin our global partnership with such an impact.” – said Ecclestone for official F1 website formula1.com
