Rome race would ‘surprise’ Mosley

Feb.5 (GMM) Max Mosley is not confident the formula one circus will race on a Roman street circuit in 2010

A grand prix in the Italian capital has been touted, and Bernie Ecclestone’s interest in the project was all but confirmed this week when his preferred circuit architect, Hermann Tilke, inspected proposed sites in the city’s EUR district

But FIA president Mosley, who said the sport’s governing body has not yet been asked to sanction a Rome event, told Thursday’s La Gazzetta dello Sport: “I would be surprised if it happened

“I know how much effort and money it costs to organise a street circuit race in Monte Carlo. And Italy has lots of valid permanent circuits

“Anyway it’s Ecclestone’s problem, not mine,” he added
