Rumor: Carlos Sainz to Ferrari?

Mon, 20 July 2015, 08:13

There are fresh rumours afloat in the Italian and Spanish media that Carlos Sainz has become the latest candidate to partner Sebastien Vettel at Ferrari in 2016.

Until now, the likely candidate to replace Kimi Raikkonen has been his fellow countryman Valtteri Bottas with some ‘inside sources’ even claiming a €4 million break-out clause had already been agreed between the Italian Marque and the resurgent Williams team for their driver.

Nico Hulkenberg was also rumored to be a candidate, but it is believed Ferrari did not want two drivers of the same nationality in one team as both Nico and Vettel are of German nationality.

However, Carlos Sainz has impressed team bosses throughout the paddock with his performance in his debut year, outperforming the much acclaimed Max Verstappen. It is said that Carlos is getting advice and guidance from Ferrari’s former driver, Fernando Alonso, providing more credibility to the latest rumours. Taking into consideration Ferrari’s link with the Spanish bank Santander, it wouldn’t be surprising to learn for the sponsor to be the primary catalyst for the move.

It appears as though the second Ferrari seat will be of much discussion until team boss Arrivabene finally decides on his number two driver. Until then, we will keep you informed.
