Retired seven time world champion Michael Schumacher has been offered an apartment in Ferrari’s new residential village, located near the Italian marque’s Maranello factory, according to the newspaper ‘Express’.

The town’s mayor, Lucia Bursi, recently helped team boss Jean Todt to open the complex in Pozza di Maranello, featuring more than 100 bright-red apartments available only to staff of the famous Prancing Horse.

The ‘Express’ report speculates that Schumacher, 37 – whose new mansion in Switzerland is nearing completion – might make use of the apartment some 4km from the F1 team’s HQ when he starts work as a part-time ‘assistant’ to Todt in 2007 and beyond.

Mayor Bursi last week made German-born Schumacher an honorary citizen of Maranello.
