Michael Schumacher says he will try to return to the top step of the podium next time out, at Monaco.

The German, who was a little puzzled to lose by 18 seconds to Renault’s Fernando Alonso in Barcelona, said the street circuit in Monte Carlo is one of his favourites on the calendar.

But Ferrari’s Schumacher said: ”I don’t know how the situation is going to look there.

”Here, we were very confident, everything was going well, but (on Sunday) I was suddenly one second slower than him.

”So first we need to find the reason for that.”

Technical director Ross Brawn expressed confidence that the red team could return to winning form very quickly, although he admitted that a few bad races for Alonso would be ‘helpful’.

The Briton said: ”We have many new parts coming, and Michael is always very good in Monte Carlo.”

Also looking forward to Monaco is Jenson Button, who admitted in Barcelona that his Honda simply was not a match for the leading two.

But, before heading to David Coulthard’s party in the city to mark his 200 career grands prix, ‘JB’ said: ”I love Monaco.

”Two years ago I finished second there so hopefully we can do that again or even go one better.”gmmf1 dailyf1news.com
