Little more than a month after contesting his final grand prix, Michael Schumacher will be back at the wheel this weekend for a 24-hour kart race.

At his own ‘Michael Schumacher Kart Centre’ circuit in hometown Kerpen, located in the west of Germany, the retired seven time world champion is to lead one of 18 teams with 280 drivers taking part in total, according to ‘dpa’.

One of the other racers will be long time Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer.

Meanwhile, the Swiss newspaper ‘Blick’ – reporting that all teams will use identical karts – quoted circuit manager Joachim Reuter as saying that ‘the media interest in this event is enormous’.

Schumacher was photographed privately testing a Tony Kart in Italy last week.
