Schumacher gets beaten

Less than two months after competing in formula one for the last time, Michael Schumacher at the weekend returned to a race track for a twenty four hour kart event.

Heading the entrant ‘MS-Team’, however, the German finished the event just twelfth, despite the fact that the venue was his own indoor circuit in Kerpen.

Schumacher’s team, also featuring Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer, qualified in seventh place.

“We were not the fastest ones, but we are among the happiest,” Schumacher – wearing plain red overalls – said after the event, although some of his fans complained that spectator access for the race was very limited.

Defending the venue and Schumacher from the criticism, the circuit’s manager Joachim Reuter said: “It was a private event, and also the venue is simply too small for an abundance of spectators.”
