Speed plays down chances of F1 return

Oct.16 (GMM) Scott Speed has played down the possibility of a return to formula one.

The Californian’s one and a half season tenure at Toro Rosso ended acrimoniously in 2007, and he is now a firmly-established NASCAR driver with the Red Bull team.

“I hardly even follow formula one any more,” he told the Dutch publication formule.nl, albeit admitting he is happy to see his energy drink sponsor doing so well in F1, and his former teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi back on the racing grid.

Next year, the Charlotte based USF1 outfit is scheduled to debut in F1 with the eventual aim of fielding an all-American lineup.

“My future is in America,” Speed, now 26, said. “I have an extremely good relationship with Red Bull and it’s never been any different.

“I am very happy with what the company has done for me and I will remain always loyal to them.”
