Spyker has admitted interest in the GP2 driver Roldan Rodriguez for 2008.

It was rumoured in recent days that the 22-year-old Spaniard, thought to be promising as much as $15 million in sponsor funds for a race drive, had already signed a deal to debut next year for the Dutch team.

“I read them too,” team principal Colin Kolles admitted on Wednesday, before referring to Rodriguez’s links with Spanish motor racing figure Adrian Campos; who is reportedly interested in buying Spyker.

Kolles added: “After his podium in the GP2 race in Hungary, we are looking at the possibility of testing him fairly soon.”

Kolles also played down any suggestion that Christijan Albers might soon return to the team, after the Dutch racer recently drove a Spyker single seater at an event in Rotterdam.

“This should not be taken as a sign of any change in the situation,” said Kolles, who dropped Albers after the British grand prix because his sponsor Mingya had failed to pay.
