Spyker plan to conduct a test ‘shootout’ over the winter to determine the identity of Christijan Albers’ teammate for 2007.

Up to ten drivers are expected to be invited to the session at Jerez in the middle of next January, but only if the Dutch-owned camp is yet to have already appointed a driver for the second seat.

Team principal Christian Klien told the Kronen Zeitung newspaper that Christian Klien is ‘naturally’ a candidate, as is Tiago Monteiro. Fascinatingly, the newspaper also mentioned Super Aguri racer Sakon Yamamoto, as well as McLaren-contracted youngsters Lewis Hamilton and Gary Paffett.

The Spyker-linked Ernesto Viso, Markus Winkenhock, Adrian Sutil, Giorgio Mondini and Alexandre Premat complete the likely ten tipped to compete on track for the ride, even if each driver’s level of personal sponsorship will play a leading role in the decision.
