Staff changes at Williams, Renault?

Williams’ chief executive Chris Chapple has left the Grove based Formula One team, according to reports.

Chapple, whose foremost accomplishment at the Oxfordshire squad was arguably the negotiation of a new Concorde Agreement for the team, joined Williams as ‘head of finance’ last year and was promoted in May 2005.

Oxford-educated Chapple also served in Iraq as a Royal Marine and worked previously for Goldman Sachs and Marconi.

Meanwhile, it is reported elsewhere that Renault’s Pat Symonds – although to still attend all grands prix next year – plans to delegate some of his trackside responsibilities in 2007 to former race engineer Alan Permane.

Symonds earlier this year ruled out following the footsteps of Ferrari’s Ross Brawn with a one-season ‘sabbatical’.

“I can think of nothing better than sitting on a beach for a year,” he said, “but I know that within a week or two I would be clawing to get back.”
