STR ‘not ready’ to name drivers – Berger

Thu, 1 February 2007, 12:08

Toro Rosso is still not ready to lift the lid on its race driver lineup for 2007.

That is the insistence of the Faenza based team’s co-owner Gerhard Berger, who suggested that Robert Doornbos’ commitment to Red Bull and – probably – the Champ Car series should not necessarily give Scott Speed and Vitantonio Liuzzi cause to celebrate their status for the new formula one season.

“We are going to announce our drivers when we are ready in some moment during the next weeks,” Berger told f1grandprix.it.

The former BMW motor sport director and grand prix racer would not elaborate on the cause of the hold-up, but it is rumoured that Toro Rosso would like to install Sebastien Bourdais in a cockpit despite his Champ Car contract.

Berger said: “We are still having certain things to sort out and we are still not ready to announce our drivers.”
