An authoritative Italian newspaper has added credibility to speculation that Jean Todt is on the verge of stepping down as Ferrari’s team chief.

Media reports claim that the Frenchman, alongside the ‘sabbatical’ of technical director Ross Brawn, will be among the personnel reshuffle scheduled to be announced by the Maranello squad this week.

Roman daily newspaper La Repubblica told a similar tale on Wednesday, adding that 60-year-old Todt is to be promoted to the Ferrari presidency, leaving Luca di Montezemolo free to concentrate on his roles at Fiat, Maserati and the Italian business lobby Confindustria.

Team manager Stefano Domenicali will reportedly replace him.
