Departing Toyota team boss Tsutomu Tomita will become chairman of the Japanese grand prix circuit Fuji Speedway, the Japanese manufacturer announced on Thursday.

Toyota, which owns the Fuji venue, said in April that the 63-year-old will be replaced by countryman Tadashi Yamashina at the end of June.

“I am moving on to a new challenge with Fuji Speedway so I will continue to be involved in formula one,” Tomita said in a statement.

The Japanese grand prix this year will be held at Fuji, located in the Shizuoka Prefecture in the foothills of Mt Fuji, on 30 September.
