Another prominent member of Renault’s championship-winning team battled with cancer this year, according to Flavio Briatore.
The 56-year-old Italian revealed earlier in 2006 that he had a tumour removed from his kidney.
“I did,” team principal Briatore said in an Q&A with the Enstone based team’s press office when asked if he overcame the challenge, “and I found inspiration within our team.”
Briatore explained that Dino Toso, Renault’s head of aerodynamics, has fought a battle with cancer for two years. News of Toso’s illness first broke in 2004.
“He has done it with amazing courage,” Briatore added.
Referring to his own health scare, Briatore called his cancer “another hurdle in a year full of challenges”.
