Toyota and sponsor part ways

Toyota on Monday announced that the Indian airline Kingfisher will no longer sponsor the Japanese formula one team in 2008.

The parties have mutually agreed to end a two year contract that began in 2007, because Kingfisher owner Vijay Mallya bought the Force India team.

“Dr Mallya is now focusing on his new formula one project and Kingfisher Airlines’ request for an early end to the partnership has been agreed to be in the best interests of both parties,” a statement said.

When the post-season tests began in Spain last month, the re-liveried burgundy and white Spyker/Force India cars were sporting ‘Fly Kingfisher’ logos.
