Toyota eye Ferrari’s Gene

Toyota is on the lookout for another new test driver — and Ferrari’s Marc Gene seems to fit the bill.

”He is definitely on our list for 2007,” team president John Howett is quoted as saying by specialist British magazine Autosport.

Japanese squad Toyota is about to sign Franck Montagny as a replacement for Renault-bound Ricardo Zonta next year, but the Cologne based team must also face the loss of veteran Olivier Panis.

32-year-old Gene, a Barcelona-born Spaniard, race debuted for Minardi in 1999 before fulfilling Williams’ test driver role between 2001 and 2004.

Alongside Luca Badoer, he then became Ferrari’s second test driver after signing a contract in November 2004.
